We’re Carine and Derek
Canadian creatives who swapped a predictable life for one filled with curiosity and adventure.
After years working nine-to-five jobs, we realized we didn’t want to live by convention, so we sold everything, packed our cameras, and set out to explore the world on our own terms.
We decided to do it our way!
What started as a journey for adventure became a lifelong pursuit of creativity and connection. Through We Did It Our Way, we share stories that capture the beauty of the world and the people we meet. We want to inspire you to live and explore more intentionally.

Carine is the strategist with a spark, the one who dreams big, builds the plan, and turns ideas into reality. A lifelong explorer, she’s loves discovering new places, making meaningful connections, and capturing stories waiting to be uncovered.
With 20+ years in marketing & advertising, she brings the structure behind the creativity. Her work is shaped by a sharp strategic mind and an eye for detail inspired by her love for the planet, its people and wildlife.

Derek
Derek is the calm presence behind the camera. He’s the one who stays steady when things get unpredictable and makes everything look effortless. A self-taught creative with an entrepreneurial spirit, he’s built his craft through curiosity, patience, and a lot of real-world experience.
As a photographer, videographer, and drone pilot, Derek blends instinct with intention & technical skill. He knows when to step back and let a moment unfold, whether he’s shooting from a cliffside at sunrise or beneath the surface of the ocean.
Quietly detail-driven and endlessly curious, Derek brings a grounded approach to storytelling, focusing on creating visuals that feel honest, immersive, and alive.
