That’s why we loved our stay in the Glampod at Les Boisées de la Rivière Noire. This pod had everything we needed for a comfortable stay surrounded by nature.

Where are the Boisés de la Rivière Noire pods located?
When we look for cabins to stay in, we always try to find places that are not too far from Montreal. Especially when it comes to winter cabin stays. The reason is actually quite simple. As soon as there’s snowfall, the roads tend to become quite tricky to navigate anywhere in the province!
We were so happy to find Les Boisés de la Rivière Noire. Conveniently located about an hour and a half from Montreal, these unique cabins are in the small town of Ste-Émilie-de-L’Énergie, in the Lanaudière region of Quebec. They are nestled deep in the forest, with some cabins offering a view of the Rivière Noire.
Getting to Les Boisés de la Rivière Noire is quite easy. From Montreal, you take the 40E, past Repentigny, onto the 31 N toward Joliette and Route 131 N. Once you get to Saint-Jean-de-Matha, you’re not too far from discovering a little slice of heaven nestled in nature.
What to expect from your pod stay at the Boisés de la Rivière Noire
Usually, other unique accommodations and pods feel more like camping than anything else. You end up having to pack bedding and your washing quarters are not in the cabin. Well luckily, the ones at the Boisés de la Rivière Noire are super comfortable and fully stocked. Bring your clothes and your toothbrush, because everything else is included.
We got to enjoy the newest pod of the bunch called Le Mésange. But they are all very similar, if not identical with some aesthetic differences. Fun fact, all the pods at the Boisés de la Rivière Noire are named after local birds.
These pods come with everything you need to enjoy your time nestled in the forest. They are entirely made of wood, with windows and large patio doors letting in the perfect amount of light throughout the day. Minimalistic yet cozy, they feature modern amenities, while allowing you to disconnect if you wanted to.
The living space is a cozy size and is perfect for a couple or a small family. There’s a living room that includes a couch that can convert into a double bed, a TV and games for you to enjoy. And how can we forget the wood-burning fireplace?! It really heats the place up, but even better, it makes the mood ultra cozy! The cabin also comes with high-speed internet, an HD TV with satellite connection – so if you want to work from here, you can!
The kitchen, although not very big, is still convenient to cook in and comes with everything you need to cook up a storm. Beyond the usual appliances, they also included a coffee maker, and all the pots and pans you need. They even have a fondue set so that you can create the perfect cabin escape.
There are 2 places to sleep. The main bedroom has a queen bed and ensuite bathroom. The cabin also features a washer and dryer for those who want to call this beautiful place home for a longer stay. Up on the mezzanine, you’ll also find two twin-sized mattresses on the ground. Perfect for the kiddos.
Spending time outside the unique accommodations at the Boisés de la Rivière Noire
If the inside doesn’t have you swoon yet, the outdoor space will. When we talk about finding comfort in nature, the pods at the Boisés de la Rivière Noire take it to the next level. Beyond staying in these unique accommodations in Quebec, you’ll find everything you need to enjoy a relaxing stay in nature.
A covered area outside the pod allows you to BBQ in peace, no matter what the weather throws your way. There’s also a seating area where the BBQ is, perfect for spending time together while cooking or enjoying your meal. It’s overlooking the forest and the river, so you’re sure to enjoy the view here.
On the main patio, you’ll also find a hot tub. Perfect for relaxing, looking up at the starry nights, or enjoying the moment. A few steps away, there’s a dry sauna where you can unwind and take a moment to catch your breath.
If you want to take time and sit by a fire outside, there’s a fire pit to enjoy. Conveniently, there’s wood piled up next to the pit so you can spend all night staring at the stars.
What to do nearby in Lanaudière, close to the Boisés de la Rivière Noire
We’re not going to lie. There’s not much to do near less Boisés de la Rivière Noire, but we’re not mad about it. In fact, we prefer it that way, because it allowed us to spend as much time possible enjoying what we had at the cabin. Peace, quiet, and comfort. And really, what more could you ask for what you have that?! Not much!
If you are looking to go on a little adventure, you have the Parc national des Sept Chutes that is about a 5-10 minute drive from the cabins. There, you’ll find over 12 kilometers of hiking trails. Some take you to the peak of Mont Brassard, at a height of 700m, where you can see the seven waterfalls the park is named after. If you go in the winter, you’re in luck because the main pavilion offers snowshoes to rent.
If you love chasing waterfalls, you’re in luck, because the Boisés de la Rivière Noire are located near quite a few falls, including the Dorwin and Chutes à Bull waterfalls. They’re about 30-45 minutes away from the pods.
If you visit the pods with your family and want to do a fun excursion with the kids, the Super Glissade Saint-Jean-de-Matha are about 20-30 minutes away. They have a ton of trails to go snow tubing down. It’s the perfect place to have some winter fun with the kiddos.
When it comes to food and entertainment, don’t expect much from this sleepy little town. There seems to be a restaurant or two in Sainte-Emilie de l’Énergie, but not much more. Luckily, there is a BoniChoix about 15 minutes away from the cabins, and since each pod comes equipped with a full-stocked kitchen, cooking in your pod is easy and simple. This is what we would recommend for your stay at the Boisés.
